Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 27, 2026

Overview

siono ("we", "us", "our") is a product of Zafronix LLC, a Wyoming corporation. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use siono.app.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Display Name: When you create or respond to a poll/decision, you provide a name. This is stored in a browser cookie on your device and associated with your responses.
  • Poll/Decision Content: Questions, options, pros/cons, comments, and votes you create or submit.
  • Email Address (optional): If you opt in to email updates — for example, to receive the weekly snapshot (aggregate stats only — see Data Sharing below), a notification when a poll closes, or the recap for a poll you created — we store the email address you provide along with the reason you signed up, the timestamp, your IP address, and the duel ID where you opted in (if applicable). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email or at /unsubscribe.

Information Collected Automatically

  • IP Address: We collect your IP address for analytics and approximate geolocation (country/city level). Geolocation uses the ip-api.com service over plain HTTP (the free tier's only protocol option) — only the IP itself is sent and only the country/region/city/ISP fields are returned. Raw IPs are anonymized to a network prefix (last octet of IPv4 / lower 80 bits of IPv6) after 90 days.
  • Browser Information: User agent string for analytics and compatibility purposes. Dropped from records older than 90 days by the daily retention sweep.
  • Cookies: siono uses a small set of cookies, each with a specific functional purpose. None of these cookies track you across third-party sites.
    • siono_name — your display name on polls (set when you first enter it). 1 year.
    • siono_locale — your preferred language (auto-detected from Accept-Language on first visit, manually overridable). 1 year.
    • siono_region — coarse geographic region (eu / other / unknown) used to decide whether to show the cookie consent banner. 1 year for confident lookups, 1 hour for unknown. See Cookie Consent (EU/UK visitors) below.
    • siono_consent — your cookie consent choices, if you’re shown the banner. 1 year. Absent = no decision recorded.
    • siono_device — a random ID used to recognize you as a returning voter without requiring login. 1 year.
Conditional cookies set only if the matching consent category is granted: Google Analytics’ _ga/_ga_* (analytics), Meta Pixel’s _fbp (marketing).

Location Data

  • Optional Location: If you choose to attach a location to a poll/decision, we use the Google Maps Places API to search for places. Google's privacy policy applies to this service.
  • Browser Geolocation: If you choose to use the "Show distance" feature, your browser will ask for permission. This location data is used only for distance calculation and is not stored on our servers.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and operate the siono service
  • To display your name and votes to other participants in a poll/decision
  • To generate aggregate analytics (e.g., number of polls created, popular categories, geographic distribution)
  • To improve and optimize the service

What We Do NOT Do

  • We do not require account registration
  • We do not collect email addresses unless you explicitly opt in
  • We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for advertising
  • We do not access your contacts or address book
  • We will never email you a marketing message you didn't opt in to receive

Data Sharing

Poll/decision content (questions, options, votes, comments) is visible to anyone who has the link. Do not include sensitive personal information in your polls or decisions.

We do not promote your polls in our own marketing channels, emails, or digests. The link is the only mechanism by which a poll reaches an audience — we don't feature, list, or forward individual polls to subscribers. The weekly subscriber email contains aggregate counts and category trends only; it never includes specific questions, options, votes, comments, or creator names.

We use the following third-party services:

  • Google Maps Places API: For location search functionality
  • Yelp Fusion API: For nearby restaurant suggestions when creating Food polls/decisions with a location set. Yelp data (ratings, photos, reviews) is displayed with attribution.
  • ip-api.com: For approximate geolocation from IP addresses
  • Resend (resend.com): Email delivery sub-processor. When you opt in to emails, your address is shared with Resend strictly for the purpose of delivering the messages you signed up for. Resend does not use your data for advertising. Resend Privacy Policy.
  • Google Analytics (G-T12B27TP31): Loaded only after you accept analytics cookies via the consent banner. We enable IP anonymization (the last octet of every IP is dropped before storage). Used to understand which pages and features get used in aggregate. Google Privacy Policy.
  • Meta Pixel: Loaded only after you accept marketing cookies via the consent banner. Records page views, votes, and email signups in aggregate so we can measure ad performance. You can block it via your browser's tracking-protection settings or by declining marketing cookies in our consent banner.
  • Affiliate networks (Amazon Associates, Expedia Creator Hub via Impact / Partnerize, Yelp Affiliates, Ticketmaster): When you click an affiliate link on siono, the destination site (and the affiliate network sitting in front of it) drops their own tracking cookies / sets identifiers in your browser to attribute the click + any subsequent purchase to siono's account. siono itself only receives aggregate commission reports — we don't see individual purchases or your account info on those sites. We may earn a commission when you click certain outbound links, at no cost to you. Each network's privacy policy applies to data collected after the click: Amazon, Impact, Expedia, Yelp. See our Terms for details.

Data Retention

Poll/decision data is stored on our servers for as long as the service is active. We may periodically remove expired or inactive polls. Aggregate analytics data (totals, category distribution, daily activity) is retained indefinitely.

Personally identifying signals roll off after 90 days: raw IP addresses are truncated to a network prefix (last octet of IPv4 dropped, lower 80 bits of IPv6 dropped) and User-Agent strings are deleted. This applies to subscriber records, analytics events, and voter-contributed poll options. The records themselves remain so aggregate counts stay accurate; only the fields that could identify an individual visitor are removed.

Email addresses on the subscriber list are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Pending (unconfirmed) signups expire after 30 days.

Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

You have the right to:

  • Access: request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Erasure ("right to be forgotten"): request deletion of your subscriber records via our self-serve flow at /delete-my-data. The flow uses email confirmation; deletion completes within seconds of your confirmation click.
  • Rectification: contact us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Portability: request a structured copy of your data.
  • Withdraw consent: unsubscribe from any email via the one-click link in every message footer, or via your mailbox provider's native unsubscribe button (we support RFC 8058 one-click unsubscribe headers).

For requests not handled by the self-serve flow above (data access, portability, removal of poll content you authored), email support@zafronix.com. We respond to verified requests within 30 days, as required by GDPR Art. 12(3) and CCPA.

Cookie Consent (EU/UK visitors)

The consent banner is shown only to visitors from the European Economic Area (EU 27 + Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) and the United Kingdom, where GDPR / UK ePrivacy require explicit opt-in for non-essential cookies. Visitors from other regions get the default behavior: analytics and marketing scripts load on page view (you can still block them via your browser's tracking-protection settings or by declining cookies in your browser).

To detect your region we look up an approximate country from your IP address on first visit and store the result in the siono_region cookie (values: eu, other, or unknown). The IP itself is not retained beyond what we already disclose under IP Address above. If the lookup fails we err on the side of unknown and show the banner anyway.

Necessary cookies (locale, display name, region, consent record) are set automatically because the site cannot function without them. Analytics (Google Analytics) and marketing (Meta Pixel) cookies are off by default for EU/UK visitors and only fire after you click "Accept all" or enable them via "Manage preferences." You can change your choice at any time by clearing the siono_consent cookie.

Your Choices

  • You can clear the siono_name cookie at any time through your browser settings
  • You can decline browser location permissions when prompted
  • You can use any display name — it does not need to be your real name
  • You can unsubscribe from all emails at /unsubscribe or via the link at the bottom of every email we send
  • To request deletion of your subscriber record entirely (rather than just unsubscribing), email support@zafronix.com

Children's Privacy

siono is not directed at children under 13. Email signup forms include a 13+ age-confirmation checkbox that must be ticked before the request goes through. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact support@zafronix.com and we will delete the records.

Email Consent & Anti-Spam

siono uses double opt-in for every email subscription. After you submit an email, we send a confirmation message; you must click the confirmation link before we add you to any send list. Records that are unsubscribed cannot be silently re-enabled by re-submitting the address — you would need to consent again from scratch.

We never share, sell, or rent your email address. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link in the footer and the standard List-Unsubscribe / List-Unsubscribe-Post headers (RFC 8058) so your mail client can offer a native unsubscribe button.

Voter-Contributed Content & Abuse Forensics

If a poll creator enables "allow voters to add options," voters can append their own options after the poll is published. We capture the contributor's IP address and User-Agent on the option record (privately — not shown to anyone but admins) so we can investigate spam or abuse. These signals are anonymized after 90 days using the same retention policy described above.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
